ENVI-met Integration in Chinese Universities’ Architecture Curriculum

Discover how ENVI-met is revolutionizing architecture education in Chinese universities and driving sustainable design practices across the country. Chinese universities, including key institutions like Chongqing University, Shenzhen University, and Tongji University, are incorporating ENVI-met into their core curriculum. Yujin Yang, the official distributor of ENVI-met in China, has been instrumental in training university teachers and improving software education at various levels.

Yujin Yang’s Contribution to Software Education and Sustainable Design in China

Since 2018, Yujin Yang has been providing comprehensive training to lecturers on the effective use and teaching of ENVI-met. Shenzhen University, one of the universities he has collaborated with, even secured the first prize in the national green building competition by presenting a creative and climate-adapted proposal for renovating old flats. Graduates of Shenzhen University’s degree program have been utilizing the commercial software version of ENVI-met since 2020, applying sustainable environmental planning in their workplaces.

In addition to his training initiatives, Yujin Yang has written the first Chinese urban microclimate tutorials, furthering the understanding and application of ENVI-met in China. His contributions also extend to co-authoring textbooks on strategic planning for emerging areas, with a particular focus on integrating sustainable tools like ENVI-met into architectural education. This groundbreaking effort aims to shape the future of design education by embedding low carbon concepts throughout the entire process.

Growing Demand for ENVI-met in China’s Green Urban Planning Initiatives

China’s ENVI-met market is experiencing rapid growth, driven by its comprehensive features and capabilities. As the Chinese government invests heavily in innovative green and energy-efficient urban designs, the demand for advanced modeling technology like ENVI-met is skyrocketing. ENVI-met’s high-resolution 3D modeling capabilities, incorporating air movement, aerosol concentrations, and radiation complexities, enable accurate predictions of temperatures, wind speed, and air distributions within urban environments. This invaluable tool empowers urban planners, architects, and environmental scientists to design sustainable and energy-efficient cities by considering factors such as heat island effects and thermal mass.

Key Role in Climate Adaptation and Urban Planning

ENVI-met software plays a key role in climate adaptation by allowing the precise modeling of microclimate at a local level. With this software, one can accurately predict the temperatures, wind speeds, and air flows in urban areas, and also take into account how these conditions can be altered by the presence of buildings, vegetation, and other features. This information is invaluable for urban planners as it allows them to design cities and buildings that are better adapted to the local climate while also meeting sustainability goals. Additionally, ENVI-met also provides detailed information which can be used to assess the impact of climate change on local ecosystems and inform adaptive strategies.
